Most casinos, including online casinos have their Blackjack table arranged in semi-circular area, some are in rectangular shape. The central area is known as The Pit. Every Blackjack table will be assigned with a dealer and often times a person called Pit Boss or Supervisor will overlook 4 or 5 of the tables. This is the general setting for Blackjack table; there might be some variation between casinos.
One Blackjack table usually accommodate 5,6 or 7 seats. All seats for players are arranged outside the semi-circle and the dealer is standing facing the players on the other side. The seat to the dealer's immediate left is referred to as first base. The seat to the dealer's immediate right is referred to as third base. In front of each player will be a rectangular or circular box marked out on the felt. This is the area where players' place their bets and where the player's cards are dealt.
Table area between the dealer and the players will usually have printed on it the following two rules: Blackjack pays 3-2 and Dealer stands on all 17's. There will also be a semicircular strip which reads Insurance pays 2-1. On or at the side of any table will be a sign stating minimum or maximum allowable bets or both. Choose a table with a minimum which will not be too burdensome on your pocket.
How To Play Blackjack
Blackjack play will normally begin whenever there is one player sits down at the table. However, some Blackjack table at land-based casinos will require at two or more players to start a game at a Blackjack table.
Once all the players have placed their bet, the dealer will deal cards based on clockwise fashion starting with the player sits at the dealer's immediate left, which is known as the First Baseman. The player on the far right of the dealer is referred to as the Third Baseman.
In Blackjack, the value of a card starting for two to ten is ascertained by the number on the card; for example a card with 5 hearts carries value of 5. Kings, Queens and Jacks are all valued as ten. In Blackjack, the Ace is a very special card as it is the most powerful card that can carry value either 1 or 11. As Blackjack also known as the game of Twenty-One, meaning that a player will bust if the total of his card exceeds 21. You can choose the Ace to be valued as 11 as long as it does not cause your hand to bust. For example, if a player has an Ace and a 4 of hearts, his total will be 15, i.e., the Ace will be valued as 11 since it does not force the player to bust by being so valued. On the other hand, say the player has an 8/6/Ace. That player's total value will be 15. The Ace will be valued as 1.
In Blackjack, you need to beat the dealer's hand in order to win the game. Your goal is to have a hand with value higher than the dealer without going bust (exceed 21). There are various options that you can choose when playing the Blackjack game. Read the next section for player's options in playing Blackjack.
